People

The SLPI management team is comprised of scientists and engineers with a composite total of 150 years in the power generation and oil and gas industries, with expertise in project finance, development, project management, startup/commissioning and operations/maintenance. The team also has established relationships with applicable leading specialists, equipment suppliers and operators.

James (Jim) D. Jeffrey

James (Jim) D. Jeffrey

Jim began his working career in the engineering technical support section for EXXON, a major oil refiner. This position primarily involved issues relating to equipment reliability. His tenure with the refiner included several years overseas with a major Middle East oil and gas producer. After his employment overseas he served as President of a Houston-based boutique investment banking firm. More recently, Jim has been promoting the safe development of nuclear powered electricity generation in the MENA region and is involved in bridging business opportunities between China, the Middle East and the U.S. Jim’s background includes mortgage banking, private and public corporate finance and, heavy mechanical and HVAC contracting. He co-developed two U.S. patents that served as the basis for a start-up mechanical contracting company servicing the petroleum, petrochemical and power industries.

Dave received his B.S. and Ph.D. in plasma physics from MIT in 1958 and 1962, respectively. From 1962 to 1970 he held research and faculty positions at Stanford University, Culham Laboratory (England), and Yale University. In 1970 he joined Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) as a theoretical plasma physicist for Magnetic Fusion Energy (MFE) and in 1986 became a Laboratory Associate Director for MFE. In 1988 he was named Professor of Physics and Director of the Institute for Fusion Studies at the University of Texas at Austin. He returned to LLNL in 1991 as Associate Director for Energy. From 1995 to 2007, he held the position of Senior Vice-President, Energy Group, General Atomics (GA) in San Diego. In 2008 he joined SLPI, first as Chief Technology Officer and later as Chief Operations Officer.

Kenneth (Ken) Baldwin, PhD

Director of Computing

Ken has over 25 years experience in the software industry. He was Co-Founder of CenterSpace Software, a developer of high-performance, numerical component libraries. He also has developed machine learning algorithms for BigML, recommender systems for Strands, mathematical and statistical tools for MathSoft, C++ and Java class libraries for Rogue Wave Software, semantic networks for Microsoft, 3-D modeling and animation tools for Cubicomp, and web-based learning systems for Medlink and the Stanford University School of Education. He is co-author of The Elements of C# Style. He holds a PhD in Cognitive Science from the University of California, San Diego, and a BA in Linguistics from the University of California, Berkeley.
